The main material used in printing production is paper of different sorts. The paper represents a multi component system mainly consisting of specially treated vegetable fibers closely twisted with each other and bound by chemical forces of cohesion of different types. Mineral additive, the so-called sizing compound, dyes and other special additives can also be added to the paper composition. The main fibrous half-finished [half-way] products are wood cellulose and wood-pulp.
Machine smoothness paper
Paper passed through the hot-press of papermaking machine in order to compact the structure and obtains a uniform thickness and smooth surface on both sides.
One-side smoothness paper
Mainly label paper passed through the glazing cylinder in order to obtain increased smoothness on one side.
Length cutting paper
Sheet paper formation machine the direction of which coincides (direction of movement of papermaking machine footprint) with the long side of the sheet.
Paper with the coating cover (with covering)
Paper with the cover applied to its surface, consisting of one or several components in order to give it specific properties.
Paper vinyl
Covering material is made by means of applying of colored polyvinyl chloride coating to the paper support followed by pattern embossing.
One side coated cardboard
Cardboard with a thickness of 0,3-0,6 mm. The surface of the cardboard is white, brown and coated. One side coated cardboard is widely spread and as a rule, is used for packing light-weight products, such as tooth paste, washing powder, home appliances, confectionery and etc.
High-strength packaging paper
Very strong sized paper made of sulphate cellulose for packaging products and mail.
Corrugated board and micro corrugated board
Three-layered corrugated board with a thickness from 3 to 3,5 mm or from 1,4 to 2,3 mm correspondingly. They differ in quality of alt layers (brown, white and coated). It is used for packaging footwear, leather and haberdashery, home appliances, auto-spare parts, sanitary ware items, crockery, confectionery and etc.
Matted corrugated board
It is a three-layered corrugated board, pasted over to the paper (board) from one side, as a rule, with applied offset printing. On the other side, it may have brown, white or flat matted layer. Variant of double-sided matting is possible. In is used in the section of expensive goods requiring quality packing with high strength properties.
Metalized cardboard and paper
Material with metalized layer applied along the whole surface. It is used in production of labels and expensive presentation or souvenir packing.
Classification of printing papers
Types of paper are grouped in accordance with the following features: 1) according to printing method (printing, offset, for photogravure printing and etc.); 2) according to the type of printed matters (newspaper, book and magazine, map paper and other); 3) according to the type of appearance (sheet or roll); 4) according to the method of manufacturing ( coated, uncoated, with water marks and etc.); 5) according to the type of finishing (machine smoothness, glazed, embossed and other.). Each classification group may include several sorts of paper which differ by separate factors and are additionally marked by means of letters and figures.
Main type and size of paper
Following designation of paper format is accepted both in Azerbaijan and in Europe. The biggest format is indicated by А0. It has sizes of 841х1189 mm with its area being exactly 1 m2. It is a format of whatman paper sheet. The rest of formats are obtained by dividing the side of the previous format by half and are marked as А1, А2, А3 and etc. This rule is observed in Japan as well, but formats are indicated like В0, В1-В7 and have somewhat other sizes. There is a number of non standard formats in USA not complying with the general formula.
